| Altarpiece of Saint Bartholomew |
|
The parish church of Oikia is distinguished by its small bell tower from the 18th century. In the interior, there is a small altarpiece attributed to Andrés de Araoz, a Guipuzcoan sculptor who marks the transition between Plateresque and Romanism, giving rise to a more classic style, stripped of the excessive Plateresque decoration, a forerunner of the monumentalism of human figures in Romanism.
The altarpiece structure is based on three vertical lines and two horizontal sections, plus the bank or base and the upper section. The lower base is occupied by San Bartholomew in the centre, with two reliefs on the sides that represent his life. The anatomical study of the martyrdom of the saint is noteworthy, where he appears flayed by his torturers. The upper section is dedicated to the life of Christ, although the central figures have disappeared: to one side is Christ before Pilate, and on the other, Christ before Caiphus.
The ornamental top is occupied by the All-powerful God, framed in a triangular pediment, as was habitual at the time. In the base, we observe the figures of the evangelists, Luke and Mark. Also, this church houses a gothic Christ, nowadays on the high altar.
