Founded in 1609 by Francisca Labayen, who donated his own house-tower for it, it is one of the first Carmelite convents in the Basque Country that follows the counter-reformations of Saint Teresa.
The building reflects the norms of sobriety proposed by the counter-reformation; only the components of the doorway added at the beginning of the 20th century turn it into something of a monument.
We must mention the crucified Christ that is conserved in the interior of the church. It can be attributed to the Romanist school of the end of the 16th century and the beginning of the 17th century and, one of the followers of Anchieta. It could be the work of Larrea.
